The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
