The President Welcomes Families of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to White House

President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.

He added that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.

White House Invitation

The president explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed reporters. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”

Community Support

Community members assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.

Both they had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to Beckstrom

“She was the individual that educators hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Measures and Government Changes

Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while armed.

The incident led the Trump administration to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop providing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to his relatives.

Impact of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with distinction, according to the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
