The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
