The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions done by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
