Tehran Declares It Could Resume American Atomic Talks provided that Approached with 'Respect' and 'Honor'

Iran is willing to reinitiate nuclear negotiations with Washington on condition that it is approached with "respect" and "respect", Iran's top diplomat has declared.

The Iranian diplomat said only diplomacy produced results, and disclosed new appeals had been made by intermediaries to reopen discussions with the US government. He asserted Iran did not have undeclared nuclear sites, and Tehran had not yet reached a point to permit the International Atomic Energy Agency to access struck enrichment centers for security reasons.

Navigating a Complex Path

Araghchi is treading a complex path since Iran does not want appear to be operating from a stance of weakness, and he consistently maintained that Iran had arisen stronger militarily and mentally from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.

He was addressing at a defense forum in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to enrich uranium domestically that it will perpetually retain" – the main reason of the impasse in the prior discussions.

Previous Negotiations Abruptly Concluded

The previous five rounds of negotiations between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and bitter end on 12 June when the Israeli government, with American backing, targeted Iranian nuclear sites in a two-week conflict that concluded with the US president asserting the sites had been destroyed. Subsequently, Western states used their right to reinstate global restrictions, but Iran asserts they have not had a substantial consequence.

Perfect Agreement Proposed

Iran's diplomats said they felt they had attained a "perfect agreement" to the uranium processing matter in earlier negotiations, when it was agreed an local partnership with US participation could process nuclear material. The two nations would have been able to declare success since home-based processing would have remained and the US could be confident that Iran's atomic project was entirely non-military.

It had not been settled in the talks that US nuclear scientists could work on Iranian soil, but that was a logical implication of the consortium proposal. Representatives asserted three times they had achieved a deal with Trump's special envoy the US official only for the arrangement to fall apart due to "detractors in America".

Current Status

Iranian officials stated the cooperative arrangement was now withdrawn, but it seems very probable the suggestion could be revived in certain ways if discussions reopen.

The American leader last week claimed he had been receiving messages that Iran sought to resume discussions, but in private Iran's diplomats claim they are not yet getting clear proposals from Washington either directly or from significant local go-betweens, such as Qatar, the Egyptian leadership, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Iranian foreign ministry has been criticized of non-responsiveness in the aftermath of Washington's unmediated tactics, but Tehran says dialogue is not part of a show.

Negotiating Stance

In his address to the gathering, intended to paint the US as a controlling nation that exploits the idea of global regulations, the foreign minister stated the two-week conflict showed the dispute could not be resolved by military means. He said the assaults started with a US demand for an complete Tehran capitulation and ended with an complete request for a halt to hostilities.

Iran is assured the first strikes by Israel were mounted with complete American awareness and collaboration, making faith hard to reestablish.

Diplomacy Remains the Primary Answer

Araghchi said: "Tehran was not the one that had abandoned negotiations; it was America and the Western nations that had repeatedly sought to dictate their will during the negotiations. Diplomacy can still be alive and continues the primary resolution to settle disagreements, but its requirements, regulations and principles must be respected."

"Provided that they speak to the Iranian people with the language of dignity and honor, they will obtain a answer in the same tone."

Repair and Rebuilding

In what is portrayed by Tehran representatives as the conflict of recovery and reconstruction, the foreign minister claimed he was certain Iran's security strengths "have significantly improved than preceding 13 or 14 June of this year. All our capabilities have been rebuilt. We gained many lessons from this conflict; we have come to know our own weaknesses and the shortcomings of the opponent."

He continued: "We effectively endured this war. Our nuclear technology, which they intended to obliterate, stays intact. The facilities and machinery, if damaged, will be rebuilt; what is important is the resolve of the nation of Iran and then the unity of the country that they sought to undermine, but failed to shatter. The Iranian people have developed stronger, more united, and more backing of the government and the country in the face of this attack."
