Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.
“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.
“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”
NYPD released video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims according to reports.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn said Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.
“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.
He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
