Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
