Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
